Doug Rozendaal grew up on a farm in Iowa and he will tell you he learned to fly in a Cessna 150, one dollar at a time, with money he did not have. His commercial aviation career began hauling overnight freight in a DC- 3.
Today he’s an FAA Designated Pilot Examiner, with over 10,000 hours in over 170 types of aircraft. Doug travels extensively flying and providing training in warbird aircraft. He is rated in Seaplanes, Gliders, and has type ratings in the B25, DC-3, PBY, Cessna Citation, Citationjet, P-51, Corsair, Hellcat, Wildcat, P-40, Zero, and T-28 with an “All makes and models of single and multi-engine piston powered” endorsement.
Doug says, he’s the "luckiest guy you ever knew." He holds a surface level aerobatic waiver in several aircraft types and spends weekends flying airshows in warbirds for the Commemorative Air Force, Texas Flying Legends, Lone Star Flight Museum, Fargo Air Museum, private collectors, and more. Most often you will see him flying the CAF Red Tail Sqdn, P-51C "Tuskegee Airmen" Also a prolific aviation writer and speaker, you will find his stories in Twin & Turbine, IFR, and Kitplanes magazines.
Doug makes his home in Clear Lake Iowa with his partner Kim. In his spare time, he owns and operates a lubricating oil manufacturing, contract packaging, real estate development business and buys and sells a few airplanes to fund his aviation habit. Looking in his hangar, you will find an F-1 Rocket, Beechcraft Baron and his own warbird, a 1942 Taylorcraft L-2M.
